Elvis Presley rights holders sue Anthropic over AI training on his songs
The owners of Elvis Presley's music sued AI company Anthropic for allegedly using his songs to train its models without permission.[1, 2, 5 +1] Authentic Brands Group, which the Guardian described as holding ownership of Presley's music, filed the suit, according to the Guardian.[1] The partnerships that hold rights to 274 Presley songs, including "Don't Be Cruel" and "All Shook Up," claim Anthropic illegally used the songs to train its AI tool Claude, the Los Angeles Times reported.[7]
The New York Times reported the lawsuit seeks $41 million and that Anthropic disagrees with the claims.[2] NBC News reported the suit also alleges Anthropic generated infringing versions of his songs.[5]
