Pope Leo cleared to travel for South America trip after cancer surgery
The Vatican confirmed Pope Leo XIV will proceed with his planned Nov. 6-17 trip to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru after a post-surgery checkup.[1, 6] Doctors determined there are no medical reasons preventing him from traveling three weeks after lung cancer surgery, the Vatican said Monday.[6] Sky News reported the Vatican said the pope is in good health and recovering well from cancer surgery.[8]
The Vatican press office said his recovery continues to progress in line with favorable assessments from his medical team.[7] CBS News described the trip as particularly grueling.[2]
Why it matters The pope will keep the already announced trip program with no changes, according to the Vatican press office.[7]
