Trump restores canceled Kansas and Iowa midterm rallies
President Donald Trump's canceled rallies in Kansas and Iowa are back on for Sunday, the White House confirmed Friday.[7, 22, 24] He had announced Thursday that he was canceling the events in favor of tele-rallies across nearly 20 states.[12, 27] When a Reuters reporter asked why the Kansas rally was canceled, Trump called the question 'sick' and 'disgusting' and told the reporter, 'You look like hell.'[1, 14, 26]
The Kansas rally was for Sen. Roger Marshall, who is in a competitive reelection race; Trump said he did not believe he needed to attend because Marshall was polling well.[14, 17] The RNC said the schedule change was meant to let Trump reach more voters through virtual tele-rallies.[2]
Vice President JD Vance's planned stop in Minnesota is off, according to UPI.[16] The schedule whiplash comes as polls show Republicans in danger of losing seats, including in areas Trump won handily in 2024.[4, 6]
Why it matters Vice President JD Vance's planned stop in Minnesota was also canceled, reducing in-person campaigning in the final days before the midterm elections.[10, 16]
