Malaysia seizes $12 million in AI chips at Kuala Lumpur airport
Malaysian customs seized about $12 million worth of advanced AI chips hidden inside 30 servers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport this month.[3, 4] Authorities are investigating a syndicate suspected of routing the chips through the country's main airport.[3]
Tom's Hardware reported the suspected smuggling network has been linked to multiple previous seizures.[4] Malaysia tightened export controls on advanced chips last year, introducing permit requirements for shipping AI chips of U.S. origin under pressure from the U.S. to prevent rerouting to China, according to Fortune.[1]
