Trump says Norway 'sucks' after Nobel Peace Prize loss
President Trump attacked Norway at a Michigan rally on Sunday, calling it a "shithouse country" and saying "Norway sucks."[2, 8] He made the remarks while complaining that he was not awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, which went weeks earlier to human rights lawyer Navi Pillay.[7, 9] The Hill reported that the Norway-based selection committee honored Pillay, a former International Criminal Court judge, instead.[10]
The New Republic reported that Trump also suggested banning Norwegians from the U.S.[4] Norway dismissed the slurs, with Norwegian officials emphasizing that their country has no influence over who receives the Peace Prize.[5, 6] Norway's foreign minister issued a response after the comments, according to The Daily Beast.[3]
