OpenAI releases cheaper GPT-6.1 Terra model
OpenAI on Monday released GPT-6.1 Terra, a mid-priced version of its GPT-6.1 model that the company said is significantly cheaper and more efficient than the version of this tier it released three months ago.[2] OpenAI said GPT-6.1 Terra costs up to 50% less per token to use than its predecessor.[2] The Decoder reported that the model cuts API prices in half compared to its predecessor.[1]
Analysts told The Decoder that the model sets a new standard for intelligence per dollar, especially for everyday computing tasks and AI-driven computer control.[1] The Information described the release as coming amid a pricing battle with Anthropic.[2]
