Trump administration clashes with 60 Minutes over deportation of Texas man
A 60 Minutes report on the deportation of Moussa Diawara, a 57-year-old Malian immigrant who had lived in the United States for 25 years, drew sharp responses from the Trump administration.[1, 4, 5] The report, which aired Sunday, highlighted the struggles of Diawara's family, including his wife, and said he was deported in July and eventually ended up in Mali.[2, 3] The Trump administration disputed 60 Minutes's characterization, saying Diawara was deported for claiming asylum for being gay despite having a wife and two children.[5]
U.S. Attorney Aaron Reitz accused the program of fake news and told those in the country illegally, Don't be here in the first place.[1] Nearly all public information about Diawara comes from the CBS report and competing administration claims, according to the Washington Examiner.[5]
