DOJ asks Washington to set aside ballots from alleged noncitizen voters
The Justice Department asked Washington state to set aside ballots from roughly 400 people it alleges are registered to vote without US citizenship, sending a letter to the secretary of state with a list of the voters.[12, 16, 19 +1] Breitbart reported that federal prosecutors identified 405 people who cast more than 1,500 ballots over multiple elections, and Fox News reported that acting U.S. Attorney Neil Floyd said some cast ballots as many as 27 times, with alleged votes dating back to 1984.[29, 32] Prosecutors described the findings as the tip of the iceberg, according to Breitbart and The Western Journal.[29, 36]
The Washington demand came less than two weeks after a similar request in California, where the Justice Department seeks to block counting of about 20,000 mail-in ballots from voters whose citizenship it questions.[6, 12, 18 +1] A Ninth Circuit panel denied the Justice Department's emergency motion to force California to set aside the ballots; California officials say there is not enough time to verify each voter before the election.[28, 31]
