Japan indicts US Marine on murder and robbery charges over woman's death in Okinawa
Japanese prosecutors have indicted US Marine Lance Cpl. Devin Jacob Ballard, 20, on robbery and murder charges over the death of a Japanese woman in Okinawa.[1, 5, 6] Ballard is accused of strangling Anna Yagi, 39, at a hotel, and was arrested by police on suspicion of the killing.[1, 3] The indictment was reported by NHK, Japan's public broadcaster, citing the Naha District Public Prosecutors office.[5]
Ballard is stationed at the Futenma Air Base in Okinawa, and the woman's death occurred last month.[5] The Guardian reported that Ballard denies the charges.[1]
