Alex Pretti's parents say federal government silent on son's killing
Susan and Michael Pretti said they have not heard from the federal government about his death and accused officials of stonewalling them and shielding their son's killers.[4, 7] The parents of Alex Pretti, a Minneapolis ICU nurse and U.S. citizen shot and killed by federal agents in January, spoke publicly for the first time at a press conference on Tuesday.[6, 7, 8] They said they were "begging" the Justice Department "to do what is right," and demanded it release evidence of the fatal shooting.[8]
The Guardian reported the parents said they have been "ignored and misled" in their quest for justice.[4] A lawyer for the family wrote in a letter that the government's "refusal to engage in transparent communication with the Pretti family has compounded their heartbreak."[1]
It has been nine months since the shooting, which occurred in Minnesota.[1, 6] Several outlets identified the agents involved as federal immigration agents, including ICE.[1, 2, 4 +2]
Why it matters The family is publicly pressing the Justice Department to release evidence in the investigation into the shooting nine months later.[6, 8]
