Google's satellite AI server sends first response to Earth

Google's AI chip-equipped satellite has transmitted its first response generated in space to Earth, according to a blog post the company published Friday.[2] Google said it successfully booted up the satellite's Tensor Processing Units (TPUs).[2] TechCrunch reported that the first TPU in space is running a Google DeepMind Gemma 4 model.[1]

The on-board model followed through on a prompt to create a haiku about being in space, opening with the lines "Blue marble below / Data streams in," per The Verge.[2] TechCrunch described the model as writing cheesy poetry.[1]
