Pentagon insiders reportedly build dossier on Defense Secretary Hegseth
Defense Department officials have spent close to two years collecting emails, memos and meeting notes about Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, stashing copies in separate hiding spots, the Daily Mail reported, including one set in a gun safe in Northern Virginia.[2] Separately, the Pentagon had for months stonewalled lawmakers' request for materials related to the military's targeting of alleged drug traffickers in Latin America, Yahoo News reported.[4]
In response, the GOP-led Senate Armed Services Committee threatened this spring to block one of Trump's nominations unless the Pentagon granted access to the documents, according to Yahoo News and The Daily Beast.[3, 4] The Daily Beast reported that Republicans on Capitol Hill grew frustrated with Hegseth over the stalling and gave him an ultimatum.[3]
