Cornell faculty begin no-confidence vote over rape case handling
Cornell University faculty began voting Wednesday on a no-confidence resolution in the university's administration over its handling of a woman's report that she was gang raped at a campus fraternity house in 2024.[3, 4] The vote targets President Michael Kotlikoff and follows an Oct. 14 Faculty Senate meeting at which angry faculty confronted him about the university's handling of the allegations, MS NOW reported.[1] The resolution is nonbinding and cannot remove Kotlikoff, but backers hope it pushes the university's trustees to act, NewsNation reported.[8]
The Hill reported that the more than 75 Faculty Senate members will hold their second meeting debating the resolution.[5] The 2024 allegations resulted in no criminal charges and caused uproar around the country, according to The Hill.[5]
