Google launches Gemini 4 Carbon two weeks after Argon
Google DeepMind released Gemini 4 Carbon, its second major AI model in less than a month, following Gemini 4 Argon.[4, 5] Google said the new model is significantly more capable than Argon, with gains in coding, agentic tasks and cybersecurity.[5, 6] The company highlighted that Carbon tops the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v5 with 59 points, ahead of Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra.[1, 4, 6]
Because of its advanced security capabilities, built for extended agent workflows and the full cyber defense lifecycle, access is limited at first to selected security experts.[4] The back-to-back launches come after nearly a year in which Google did not release a new flagship model, according to The Information.[5]
