Putin hosts dozens of African leaders at Russia-Africa summit
Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted dozens of African leaders at the opening of a two-day Russia-Africa summit in Moscow on Wednesday.[2, 4] The Kremlin seeks to deepen ties with a continent that has taken on greater strategic importance for Russia since its 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Bloomberg reported.[1]
Putin told the leaders that Moscow was Africa's best partner, not the 'colonial' West, Al Jazeera reported.[3] Speaking at the opening, Putin described the summit as an 'organic part of a global transformation' and said 'we are witnessing a multipolar world becoming a reality — a trend that is both objective and irreversible.'[4]
