Snap settles teen social media addiction lawsuit, averting trial
Snap, the parent company of Snapchat, settled a lawsuit brought by two young people who said the platform was intentionally designed to be addictive, ending a bellwether trial in Los Angeles.[2, 3] Jury selection for the trial had begun last week, according to the New York Post.[4] The plaintiffs had previously settled similar claims with Meta, TikTok and Alphabet's YouTube.[3, 4]
Settlement terms were not disclosed.[3] The companies deny designing their platforms to addict young users, and broader litigation continues.[3]
