Saudi, Turkish and Pakistani officials hold talks in Tehran
High-level delegations from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey met Iranian officials in Tehran on Monday, according to multiple outlets.[5, 7, 9 +1] The meeting is the first high-level contact between Iran and the three states, which are members of a joint defense agreement, since Houthi rebels escalated attacks on Saudi Arabia.[6, 10, 13] Bloomberg reported the officials aim to defuse tensions and revive talks aimed at preventing a broader war in the Middle East.[5]
ABC News and the New York Post reported the talks are aimed at preventing renewed fighting between Iran, Israel and the United States.[3, 7] The New York Times reported the visit comes amid reports that the U.S. and Israel are drawing up plans to renew their war on Iran.[2]
