Russell Brand testifies, denies charges at rape trial
Russell Brand testified for the first time at his trial at Southwark Crown Court in London on Wednesday, denying all charges against him.[3, 5, 6 +1] Brand's barrister Ian Winter asked whether he committed the offences, and Brand replied "no" to each.[3] Earlier, a judge found Brand categorically not guilty of one count of indecent assault relating to a 2001 incident, telling jurors it should be treated as attempted indecent assault; The Daily Beast reported his legal battle continues.[2]
Why it matters Brand is giving evidence for the first time after the prosecution concluded its case, with his barrister Ian Winter asking him to respond to each charge.[3]
