Ramaswamy pulls ad featuring opponent Amy Acton's estranged mother
Vivek Ramaswamy's campaign confirmed Thursday that it is no longer airing an attack ad featuring the estranged mother of his Democratic opponent for Ohio governor, Amy Acton.[4, 7] The ad featured Donna Arthur calling her daughter a "liar" and arguing she is unfit to be governor.[3, 12]
The ad drew backlash from Democrats and several Republicans, and term-limited Gov. Mike DeWine, who has endorsed Ramaswamy, was among those who called on him to take it down.[6, 10] Acton's campaign spokesperson said Ramaswamy stopped airing the ad "in the most cowardly way possible, without even the hint of an apology."[2]
Why it matters Ramaswamy has called for the Ohio governor's race to return to policy after the ad drew bipartisan criticism.[8]
