Judge weighs removing Letitia James from Cornell rape probe
A New York judge is weighing a request by a man accused in the Cornell University gang rape case to remove Attorney General Letitia James as special prosecutor in the renewed criminal investigation.[3, 4] Defense attorneys argue James' social-media posts expressing solidarity with the accuser show pre-existing bias.[5, 7] The judge questioned why all of the defendants did not file the petition; lawyers for Gillio Lopes said they are confident the other six will join.[2]
Sullivan County Supreme Court Justice James Farrell pressed state lawyers about the governor's choice to appoint James.[6] The petition was argued before a state judge on Thursday.[4, 8]
