Exit polls show no clear winner in Israeli election
Israelis voted Tuesday in their first national election since the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks, with record turnout and exit polls showing no clear winner.[3, 45, 55 +1] Exit polls projected Gadi Eisenkot's opposition bloc with 52 to 53 seats, Netanyahu's coalition with 50, and Arab parties with 17 to 18, according to Axios; CNN cited a Channel 12 poll putting the opposition at 52, Netanyahu's bloc at 50 and Arab parties at 18.[6, 25] Neither Netanyahu nor Eisenkot has the 61 Knesset seats needed to form a government, pointing to weeks of coalition negotiations, NBC News and PBS reported.[41, 45, 67]
The Washington Times reported that Netanyahu's Likud party won the highest share of votes, but that neither he nor Eisenkot, a former Israel Defense Forces chief of staff, has a clear path to forming a government.[83] Eisenkot said millions of Israelis voted for change, saying they were tired of Netanyahu's 'lies', Al Jazeera reported.[94]
Mediaite reported that Netanyahu's Likud had drawn up complaints and allegations of voter fraud related to high turnout in the Israeli Arab community, and The Western Journal reported Netanyahu urged supporters to vote, saying he was 'deeply concerned' by initial data.[40, 87] Election officials rejected a last-ditch Likud petition to extend voting hours, The Washington Examiner reported.[90]
