Pentagon awards Raytheon contract extension worth up to $400 million
The Pentagon awarded Raytheon a contract extension worth up to $400 million, according to The Daily Beast; AlterNet put the figure at up to $394 million.[1, 3] AlterNet reported the Missile Defense Agency awarded Raytheon a no-bid contract extension.[1] Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's department made the award, both outlets reported.[1, 3]
Raytheon has admitted committing fraud against the government, and AlterNet reported it acknowledged two years ago overbilling the government by more than $111 million.[1, 3] The Daily Beast reported the award came about a month after officials determined Raytheon would not be suspended for its past actions.[3]
Why it matters A weapons maker that admitted defrauding the government received a new contract extension rather than suspension.[1, 3]
