Israel to close West Bank crossings on election day as military operation continues
Israel says it will close all land crossings with the West Bank on Tuesday, when it holds a general election.[4, 5] The Israeli Defense Forces announced restrictions on the movement of Palestinian workers in the run-up to the election.[5] The closures come as the Israeli military presses a large operation in the occupied West Bank, focused on the city of Hebron.[2, 3]
The Washington Times reported the operation has displaced hundreds of Palestinians and placed major restrictions on movement.[3] The Washington Times and CBS News reported the operation is in response to a gun attack last week that killed two Israeli soldiers and wounded three others in the West Bank.[1, 3]
