Elvis Presley rights holders sue Anthropic over AI training on 274 songs
The owners of Elvis Presley's music catalogue sued AI company Anthropic for allegedly using his songs to train its models without permission.[1, 2, 3 +1] Authentic Brands Group, the licensing organization that holds ownership of Presley's music, filed the suit, The Guardian reported.[1] The lawsuit covers 274 Presley songs, including "Don't Be Cruel" and "All Shook Up," according to The Guardian and the Los Angeles Times.[1, 4]
The New York Times reported the lawsuit seeks $41 million and contends Anthropic used Presley's music to train its models without permission.[2] NBC News reported the suit also alleges Anthropic generated infringing versions of his songs.[3] Anthropic denied the claims, according to The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times.[2, 4]
