Ford's sub-$30K Fathom EV pickup will power homes directly
Ford announced that its upcoming Fathom midsize electric pickup, priced under $30,000, will offer built-in bidirectional charging to power a home or the grid.[1, 4, 5] TechCrunch reported Ford is rolling out two new chargers with this so-called V2x capability.[4] Unlike other EVs, the Fathom will not need a wall-mounted inverter and can output 10 kW to a house, according to Ars Technica.[2]
CNET noted the built-in inverter can keep the lights on during an outage.[3] Forbes reported it will be the only EV at its price point with such equipment.[1] The official reveal is still a few months away, The Verge reported.[5]
