Hundreds evacuated from Ukrainian city of Oleshky under local ceasefire
Hundreds of Ukrainian civilians were evacuated from the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky on Friday under a localized ceasefire brokered by first lady Melania Trump.[22, 23] Russian and Ukrainian officials entered the devastated city in the southern Kherson region as part of a joint humanitarian mission, the first of its kind in four years and eight months of war.[3, 6]
A humanitarian convoy brought food and medicine to residents who had faced months of severe shortages, and evacuees left in bus convoys.[3, 20] Voice of America reported that a former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine called Vladimir Putin an "obstacle" to talks.[17]
