Early voting tops records days before Tuesday's midterm elections

Early voting has hit record levels days before Tuesday's midterm elections, with more than one in five registered voters already casting ballots.[15] Polls show Democrats leading the race for Congress, though tight Senate contests leave control of the chamber uncertain before Election Day.[23]

The RealClearPolitics polling averages showed Democrats leading in six of eight toss-up Senate races as of Thursday night, according to the Washington Examiner.[32] The Cook Political Report moved a dozen House races toward Democrats just days before Election Day, and Forbes reported it predicts Democrats will flip between 12 and 25 seats.[18, 31]

The scale

The three bars show what share of Tare's left-leaning, center and right-leaning outlets covered a story. The line under them says whether the left or the right covered it more, or that too few did to compare. The thin bar on each story counts the outlets that covered it from left (L) to right (R): darkest at the ends, lighter for those that lean, hatched for center. The labels describe who reads each outlet, not whether its reporting is accurate.

The small numbers

Every sentence ends with numbers. Each one is a source: tap it to see the outlet's own headline and read the original article.

Where accounts differ

Where outlets reported facts that can't both be true, or described the same event in ways that leave a different impression. On a story's page you see the headlines side by side. Tare doesn't say who is right.
