D.C. and Virginia sue to block Trump's 250-foot arch
Washington, D.C., and Virginia sued in federal court Saturday to block construction of President Donald Trump's planned 250-foot triumphal arch near Arlington National Cemetery.[3, 7, 13 +1] The lawsuit names the National Parks Service and Interior Department and calls the project "flagrantly unlawful."[3, 13] D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb warned of "serious, immediate and irreparable harm," according to Raw Story.[3]
The jurisdictions cite concerns over traffic, the environment and historic preservation, per The New York Times; Axios reported claims that the arch would snarl traffic for years.[5, 7] The Hill reported the arch would be built on the border between D.C. and Virginia and resemble arches including Paris's Arc de Triomphe.[13] There are now three lawsuits seeking to halt potential work on the monument, CBS News and The Guardian reported.[4, 8]
