US Embassy warns of credible mass casualty threat at Moscow museum
The U.S. Embassy in Moscow warned Saturday of a credible threat of a mass casualty event at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve in Moscow.[2, 6] The embassy said it was coordinating with Russian authorities on a response and urged people to avoid the area.[2, 6] Russia's FSB security service said it was carrying out "appropriate" measures after the warning, which it said it received through partner channels.[4, 5, 7]
The embassy described the threat as a planned "terrorist" attack, according to Yahoo News and Breitbart.[4, 5] The Tsaritsyno museum is an imperial palace and park complex in southern Moscow and a popular tourist attraction.[4, 6, 8] Raw Story reported that observers noted the warning was strikingly specific, naming the site and the date.[1]
Why it matters Russia's FSB said it was carrying out measures in response to the warning, and the embassy urged people to avoid the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve.[4, 6]
