Pentagon watchdog declines to probe Starlink slowdown in Ukraine
The Pentagon's inspector general declined a request from Democratic and Republican senators to investigate this month's slowdown of Starlink and Starshield service used by Ukraine.[2, 4, 5 +1] The watchdog characterized the incident as a business dispute beyond his purview, according to Bloomberg, and told lawmakers it was a contractual matter, according to ABC News.[3, 4]
The bipartisan group of senators had urged the inspector general about two weeks ago to investigate which U.S. officials were responsible for the slowdowns, the Washington Examiner reported.[5] The request also covered the disruption of U.S. intelligence sharing with Ukraine, Bloomberg reported.[4]
