Jordan strikes militants in Syria after church attack killed nine
Jordan's air force carried out airstrikes against armed groups in Syria in retaliation for Friday's attack on a Greek Orthodox church in Karak that killed nine people, the Jordanian air force said in a statement.[1] Jordanian state media said the operation "resulted in the killing and wounding of many members of these terrorist groups and the destruction of a number of their vehicles."[17] Syria denied prior coordination with Jordan after the strikes hit two provinces and killed at least seven people, Al Jazeera reported.[13]
Earlier Monday, Jordanian security forces arrested three men for the church attack after a shootout in which all three were wounded, officials said.[4, 10] The Daily Wire reported that Muslim gunmen stormed the church during a funeral and opened fire on mourners.[9] The number of wounded varies by outlet: ABC News, CBS News and The Washington Times reported more than two dozen wounded, while One America News Network reported 40 injured.[4, 5, 8 +1]
