Report: suspected Chinese spy had close ties to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang
U.S. intelligence agencies concluded that Alice Huang, also known as Huang Le, an executive at Singapore-based data center company Megaspeed, was a Chinese intelligence asset funneling information to Beijing, according to a New York Times report.[1, 3, 4 +1] The Times reported that Huang, who is of no relation to the Nvidia CEO, developed a close relationship with Jensen Huang and met with him multiple times while under U.S. surveillance.[3, 14, 15] Megaspeed, an Nvidia cloud partner, has been accused of illegally selling Nvidia AI chips to China, sources told the Times.[1, 21, 24]
President Trump was briefed on the findings about a year ago and did not take action, according to the Times.[4, 7, 23] Nvidia disputed the report, saying the diversion allegations were "thoroughly investigated and debunked last year."[6, 11] Jensen Huang said the chipmaker's dealings with Megaspeed International were "normal and not unusual."[5]
