Anthropic files for IPO in one of the largest stock debuts ever
The San Francisco-based company, founded in 2021 and known for its Claude chatbot, plans to list on the Nasdaq under the ticker ANT, with a Wall Street debut expected next month.[4, 76, 82] Sky News reported the company made a loss in the first six months of this year, and Axios reported it owes almost $650 billion for computing.[11, 80]
The filing discloses hundreds of billions of dollars in largely noncancelable compute commitments, which outlets reported as roughly $650 billion to $1 trillion depending on the source.[11, 28, 49 +1] The filing also discloses a governance structure under which Anthropic's seven co-founders will control the company through a single golden share of supervoting stock.[78]
Why it matters The filing sets up Anthropic to become the first large frontier AI lab to go public, with its debut expected next month.[41, 76]
