Trump campaigns in Texas, says he'll accept midterm results if 'honest'
President Donald Trump campaigned in Corpus Christi and Lubbock, Texas, on Tuesday for Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton, who is running against Democrat James Talarico.[30, 36, 54] A Fox News poll shows Paxton and Talarico tied at 49% in a state Trump won by double digits, according to Fox News.[44] PoliticusUSA reported Trump claimed 22,000 people attended the Mississippi rally, while the outlet said only 1,400 were there; The Daily Signal described a lively crowd.[15, 50]
The rally blitz follows a spat with former President Barack Obama, who mocked Trump's gold-accented White House renovations with a Cheesecake Factory joke at a Cleveland rally Saturday; Trump called the company "a very successful company."[17, 40, 46] Pressed by reporters Tuesday, Trump said he would accept the midterm results if the elections are "honest," a condition The Washington Times reported raises questions about whether he would recognize a Democratic victory.[33, 52, 57]
