Exit polls show no clear winner in Israeli election
Exit polls in Israel's election on Tuesday showed no clear winner, with opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot's bloc slightly ahead of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's but short of a majority.[8, 9, 11 +1] Axios reported exit polls giving Eisenkot's bloc 52 to 53 seats, Netanyahu's 50, and Arab parties 17 to 18.[8] Israelis voted in record numbers in the country's first national election since the Oct. 7, 2023 attacks, which many viewed as a referendum on Netanyahu.[2, 10, 14 +1]
Netanyahu accused opponents of trying to steal the election following arrests in a suspected voter-bribery investigation, and he and Eisenkot accused each other of dirty tricks.[21, 22] Election officials rejected a last-ditch Likud petition to extend voting hours, according to the Washington Examiner.[29] Mediaite reported that Netanyahu's Likud party had drawn up complaints of voter fraud related to high turnout in the Israeli Arab community.[13]
