Ohio venues cancel Ramaswamy events amid backlash over Acton ad
Ohio venues are cancelling campaign events featuring Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy after backlash to his attack ad against Democratic opponent Amy Acton.[5, 8] Elliot's Wood Fired Kitchen and The Old Dog Ale House & Brewery cancelled events with the Ohio Republican Party, The New Republic reported.[8] Raw Story, citing Newsweek, reported that venues including Kick-N-Ax in Zanesville, Izzy's in Monroe, and The Local Bar in Strongsville drew rushes of one-star Google reviews after hosting GOP events.[3]
The cancellations came during an 11-day statewide bus tour the Ohio Republican Party launched ahead of next Tuesday's midterm elections.[5] Ramaswamy defended the ad, telling Fox and Friends it was truthful and accusing Acton of lying about it, according to Crooks and Liars.[1]
The Guardian called the ad's argument false, while the Cleveland Plain Dealer endorsed Acton, citing Ramaswamy's campaign strategy of exploiting her sexual assault as a child.[1, 7] A Washington Examiner opinion writer, a self-described disabled veteran and Ohio voter, wrote that Ramaswamy's campaign gave him reason to question Ramaswamy's judgment.[11]
