Colts trade DeForest Buckner to 49ers for 2027 fourth-round pick
The Indianapolis Colts traded defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2027 fourth-round pick, sources told ESPN.[4, 6] The deal came hours after Indianapolis sent All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks, a person with knowledge of that deal told the Associated Press.[1, 2] The Colts would receive a third-round draft pick for Nelson, according to the person, who spoke anonymously because the deal had not been announced by either team.[1]
Buckner, a three-time Pro Bowler, returns to the team that drafted him, IJR reported.[4] The Athletic reported Buckner, a two-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler, had four sacks in seven games this season for the Colts.[7]
Fox News described the moves as the Colts continuing to trade away Pro Bowl talent for future draft picks.[3] The Guardian reported Indianapolis fired general manager Ballard last week amid a skid.[1]
Why it matters The Colts are acquiring future draft picks, including a 2027 fourth-rounder, as they trade away veteran Pro Bowl players.[3, 4]
